New video series – Considering grief and homelessness
•Canadian Grief Alliance
In a set of new videos, we hear from Briar Ames about grief. Briar, an overdose prevention worker, became unhoused at the beginning of the pandemic. Now housed, she recalls the grief and loss that she experienced during that period of her life.
In her interview, Briar sheds light on the universal aspects of grief but also identifies some challenges unique to those experiencing homelessness. She talks about grieving lost possibilities, delayed grief, and how she could not fully process her grief until she was safely housed. She provides suggestions for how to more effectively help people who are experiencing homelessness to grieve, such as public memorials and mobile grief supports.
We are fortunate that Briar has shared her experiences with us, and we hope you’ll watch this interesting series here.
