Your Guide to Help You Understand Cancer & Heal
The Métis Patient Cancer Care Guidebook is a wholistic, culturally integrated resource that blends Western medicine with traditional Métis values to support patients and families. The guide validates heavy emotions like shock, anger, fear, and deep sadness as normal, healthy responses to a diagnosis. It gives patients and loved ones open permission to process their pain, reinforcing that it is okay to cry and that hiding one's feelings is unnecessary. The resource recognizes that grief is a shared experience, offering guidance on how families and caregivers can navigate these difficult emotional shifts together. To help heal the spirit during times of emotional loss, it advocates for "La bonne Michin" (Good Medicine), which includes traditional wellness practices, ceremony, and Elder support. It also provides practical and emotional navigation for end-of-life realities, touching upon topics like health care directives, wills, and advanced illnesses. Ultimately, the guide ensures that those experiencing the profound grief of a cancer journey feel culturally supported and reminded that they are not alone.
